reflections FROM THE
EAST
Amidst its concerns… forget not the duties… so frequently inculcated, and so forcibly recommended… to befriend and relieve every Brother… to aid… to vindicate his character when traduced. Our Masonic Year was launched on January 15 with the Masonic ritual of an opening, a Fellow Craft degree and a closing in due and ancient form. With the fraternal and sincerely appreciated participation of several Brethren from our sister Lodges, we did an excellent though certainly not flawless ritual. Much as been discussed about the importance of ritual to Masonry and your current Worshipful Master is in full agreement. Masonic ritual is at the core - the heart and soul of being a good Mason. The Masonic Light, however, is in the understanding, the belief, and the practice of the ritual. All of us have known Masonic Brethren who flawlessly recite the cipher. It is worthy of praise and admiration. Far more vital, however, is the application of those sentences; when we, as Masons, are directed to “learn the ritual,” it is the message, not the cipher that makes us Masons and distinguishes us in the world of the profane.
